If you have just applied for a new credit card or replacing your old expired or lost credit card, it could as long as 7-10 days to get your new card. This is what the credit card companies tell their customers how long it will be before getting your new card. However, most financial institutions will review your credit card application very quickly and so within a day or so, if approved, they will issue and send the credit card within 24-28 hours.
What Can Delay Receipt of Your Credit Card
A number of unforeseen or overlooked situations can delay in processing of your application and thus getting your card.
- Incorrect or missing information – Obviously, if you did not provide all the information required by credit card companies, there will be quite a bit of delay in processing of your new credit card as they will ask you to furnish more information to complete the application.
- Credit cards that are very prestigious or hard to get may undergo manual approval process that takes longer than the one done automatically by computers.
- Credit card companies usually don’t have processes in place to manually approve credit card applications over the weekend, thus delaying by two days any applications received on Saturday and Sunday.
Expedited Shipping
If you ask, sometimes the credit card companies may expedite the shipment of credit card.
Temporary Card
If you really need a credit card, sometimes the issuer may give you a temporary credit card number that you can use online or over the phone. However, you will not be able to use this number at any physical stores like Walmart or Home Depot. Once you get your new card in the mail and you activate it, the temporary card will get expired and will be useless.
